Krabi: Two Nights in a Peranakan Village by the Sea
Two nights on a quiet headland in northern Krabi, far from the beach crowds, where Thai, Chinese and Muslim families have lived side by side for generations and the Baba-Nyonya way of life is still part of every day.
Tour overview
On the coast of northern Krabi, a small seaside village looks out over an island-dotted bay. Its families, Thai Buddhist, Chinese and Muslim, share a Peranakan heritage that shows in the pastel Sino-Portuguese houses, a Chinese shrine facing the sea, a white chedi on the shore with a view all round the bay, and a kitchen that mixes Malay, Chinese and southern Thai flavours. You stay two nights either in a seafront homestay or in a small Baba-style boutique resort in the heart of the village. A local guide walks you through the lanes and their stories and serves you a tasting of village dishes, you paddle a kayak through mangroves and limestone, and a Peranakan family invites you to cook with them. Your English-speaking guide stays with you and translates.
